Kashmir valley being unique in its vast flora of high
altitude medicinal and aromatic plants including microbial
diversity, current R&D work is focused on prospecting
these abundant natural resources. Experimental Field stations
contribute to regional services, surveys, plant genetic
resources (conservation) data acquisition, evaluation,
and production of quality planting material with emphasis
on agro and processing technology of high value plants.
Several of these are processed for production of essential
oils. Local farmers are also engaged in these activities
by providing them quality planting material and technical
know-how.
 |
To augment the germ bank collections
and establish the laboratory and its field stations
as leading resource centers of high altitude medicinal
and aromatic plants and mushrooms. |
 |
To further exploit the rich and unique
biodiversity of Kashmir region and develop technologies
involving agrotechnology, chemistry and biology
of MAPs |
 |
Isolation of newer bioactive molecules
from selected high altitude MAPs, endophytes and
mushrooms. |
 |
Extension of high value MAPs and mushrooms
to farmers for socio-economic upliftment. |
 |
To upgrade the leather training centre
for designer leather goods and garments for socio-economic
upliftment in the region. |
 |
 |
Cultivation and processing technologies
of high value aromatic and medicinal plants for
essential oils, value addition, chemical standardization
and market linkages. |
 |
Production of high quality planting
material on large scale. |
 |
Isolation of bioactive constituents
from high altitude medicinal plants including mushrooms
and endohytes. |
 |
Cultivation of button mushrooms including
spawn. |
 |
 |
Establishment of plant germbanks of
high altitude medicinal and aromatic plants |
 |
Discovery, development, resourcing
and commercialization of bioactive molecules from
MAPs and fungi. |
 |
Transfer of essential agrotechnology
and processing technologies of high value MAPs to
local farmers for their socio-econolic upliftment
under the rural development program. |

for cold-active enzymes such as cellulases, proteases
and lipases. |
 |
 |
Chemical analysis: State-of-the-art
instruementation facilities for chemical analysis
like Gas Chromatography, GC-Mass Spectrophotometer,
UV-spectrophotometer, HPTLC, HPLC, Flash Chromatography
etc |
 |
Distillation Plant: A high
capacity distillation plant used for extraction
of high value essential oils from selected MAPs. |
 |
Experimental Fields: Laboratory
farms and two extension farms which are used for
conservation of germ plasm of high altitude MAPs.
Farms are used for R&D to develop agrotechniques
and to produce good quality planting material to
be distributed to local farmers. Farms are also
used for cultivation of selected MAPs on large scale
for extraction of value added products like essential
oils. |
 |
Leather Training Centre: The
centre provides training to lacal merchants for
production of leather goods and garments. This is
helpful for socio-economic upliftment in the region.
|
 |
Mushroom Cultivation: Phase-I
and Phase-II compost facility for cultivation of
edible mushrooms. The material and technology is
also transferred to local merchants for their economic
betterment. |
 |
